WordWeb Thesaurus/dictionary

WordWeb is a powerful thesaurus/dictionary for Windows.

After running the Windows 95 install program you can then run the program by selecting the WordWeb icon under Programs on the Start menu.

You can probably use WordWeb from your word-processor - see the help file for details of how to set this up.

You may use WordWeb free of charge for whatever you like. The program is 'bannerware' - The Developers let you use it for free in the hope that you may be interested in my other programs Crossword Compiler, WordWeb Pro and WordWeb Developer. See the on-line help for details.

To Install WordWeb for Windows 95 and NT.

To Install WordWeb for Windows 3.1.

Note: For the Windows 3.1 version of WordWeb you will have to set up an icon within Program Manager. The executable file that starts WordWeb is installed by default to c:\wordweb\ and is called wweb.exe. In your Program Manager select new\program item and then locate this file on your hard disk. Windows 3.x does the rest.

Program Features

    Enter a pattern as the search word and it will find words that match, e.g.

  • T???SH finds thrash, thresh and thrush
  • *GRY finds angry, hungry and unangry
  • ?*Q*P finds acquaintanceship, equip, liquid soap, re-equip, and square up

    Use * to stand for any number of letters, and ? for one unknown letter. You can also do powerful advanced searches for vowel/consonant patterns, punctuation specific word forms and groups of letter.

    Anagrams

    Enter a word and you can find all straight and multiple word anagrams e.g.

  • protest finds potters, spotter, to strep, pert sot, etc.
  • begin finds being, binge, in beg, and gin be
  • WordWeb Pro finds powder brow + many others.

    You can also find partial anagrams. How many words can you make using the letters in "constitutional"? WordWeb Pro's answer: 726!
